Tailbook

Privacy Policy

Effective October 2026. This policy covers the Tailbook iPhone app and this website. The short version: your pet's records stay on your iPhone, and we don't collect them.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything you put into Tailbook is stored on your iPhone: your pets' profiles and photos, vaccines, vet visits, conditions, allergies, lab results, medications and doses, scanned documents, reminders, health logs, weights, food plans, walks and walk routes, and recovery plans.

Tailbook has no server that holds your records. We, the people who make Tailbook, can't see them.

Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. No notification content is sent to a server.

Ask and Apple Intelligence

Emergency checks and food-safety answers in Ask run on your iPhone and send nothing.

On iPhones that support Apple Intelligence, general answers are written by Apple Intelligence on the iPhone itself. Your question, your pet's details used to answer it, and the answer stay on the phone. Tailbook doesn't send them to us or to any other company.

Ask never diagnoses and never gives doses. Answers are saved only on your iPhone.

Weather check

Before a walk, Tailbook checks the temperature with Apple's WeatherKit. To do that, your iPhone sends your approximate location to Apple. Apple handles it under its own privacy policy. The location isn't sent to us.

Location, camera, photos and motion

Tailbook asks for each permission only when a feature needs it, and you can say no and keep using the rest of the app.

  • Location is used only for the weather check and while a walk is recording. Walk routes are stored on your iPhone and leave it only if you export your data.
  • Camera and photos are used only when you scan a vaccine card or other document, or add a photo. Reading the card happens on your iPhone.
  • Motion lets Tailbook read the iPhone's barometer during a walk to tell flat routes from hilly ones. Those readings stay on your iPhone.
  • Notifications are used for the reminders you set.

You can change any of these at any time in the iPhone's Settings app.

What you choose to share

When you share a pet passport, a vet report PDF or an export, it goes only where you send it, for example by email, Messages or AirDrop, through the iPhone's share sheet. After that, the person or service you sent it to handles it under their own policies.

No accounts, tracking or ads

Tailbook has no accounts and no sign-in. It shows no ads, contains no analytics or advertising tools, and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. We don't sell or rent anything about you or your pets, because we don't collect it.

Export and delete

In the app, go to Settings, then Export or delete my data. You can export everything as a file, or delete all of Tailbook's data from your iPhone. Deleting takes effect right away. Deleting the app also removes its data from the phone.

If your iPhone backs up to iCloud or a computer, those backups are handled by Apple or by you, the same as for other apps.

Children

Tailbook is meant for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and the app doesn't collect personal information from anyone.

This website

This website uses no cookies, analytics or trackers. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which, like any web host, receives your IP address to deliver the pages. The fonts load from Google Fonts, which also receives your IP address. Neither tells us who you are.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Tailbook handles information, we'll update this page and the policy in the app, and change the effective date.

Paid plans: Tailbook is free and has no payments today. If we add paid plans later, we'll update this policy before they launch.
